Who has lead the preparations for accession to the euro area?

To ensure a smooth changeover to the euro and coordinate associated activities, the government decided at its cabinet meeting of December 9, 2004 to form the National Changeover Committee chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance Tea Varrak.The National Changeover Committee has seven working groups dealing with issues related to the euro adoption.-.The National Changeover Committee supervised the preparation of the National Changeover Plan, which includes guidelines to government agencies and information for the general public.

The members of the National Changeover Committee are: advisor of prime minister Aare Järvan, the chancellor of Ministry of Economic Affaires and Communications Marika Priske, the chancellor of Ministry of Interior Märt Kraft, the chancellor of Ministry of Justice Margus Sarapuu, the vice president of Bank of Estonia Rein Minka, the director of European affaires to State Chancellery Juhan Lepassaar, the vice-chancellor of Ministry of Foreign Affaires Kaja Tael.

With the successful changeover to the euro are all main tasks of the NCC accomplished and government has to dissolve the Commitee.
